German For Beginners
The course extends over a week (Monday to Friday), with 25 hours of German in a small group, or on an individual basis. You will be learning the rules of German pronunciation, the foundations of German grammar and up to 400 words, which will be practised through reading, listening and conversation. Although the course is intensive, the atmosphere is relaxed and the pace is dictated by the students - we do not rush over things.
German for Post-beginners
This Monday to Friday course (25 teaching hours) is designed for those who have either completed our Beginners week, or have previous experience in learning German from other sources. The course offers a revision of the basic grammar (covered in the Beginners course), and introduces further aspects of the German declension, use of the verb “to go” and the past tense. Vocabulary (up to 400 words) covers time (clock, dates etc.), travelling and transport. You will have an opportunity to speak German in a small group and ask questions about grammar or phrases which are relevant to you.
German Intermediate
This is a 5 day course (25 teaching hours) for students who have completed the Beginners and Postbeginners weeks, or have learned German up to a similar level from other sources. You will study and revise the cases of the noun, the use of the verb in all tenses and use the adjectives, adverbs and prepositions. We will read and discuss German texts covering vocabulary on health, holidays, talking about an event in the past. Conversation is at the heart of this course and students are encouraged to use all the German they already know and to practise the new grammar and vocabulary.
German for Primary School Teachers - In 2009 we ran a series of training days for Primary and Secondary school teachers to help them prepare for teaching German. If you are interested in attending a similar training programme, please e-mail your details and we will supply further information.
In order to help Primary Schools to work towards the government objective of introducing Modern Foreign Languages by 2012, we are offering specially designed German language courses for teachers, teaching assistants or anyone interested in learning a new skill.
